Details:

The length of the road network within the Caza of Zahlé is around 350 km. An annual program is set out to rehabilitate around 20% of the network each year and carry out the maintenance work on the rest. About 200km have been rehabilitated between 2000 and 2003. (A list of major sections rehabilitated is hereto attached).

 

The tasks carried out by the Consultant consisted in:

  • Identifying road sections where maintenance is needed.

  • Identifying road sections where rehabilitation is required.

  • Preparing bills of quantities for each section with a location sketch.

  • Supervising the Contractors’ asphalt batching plant.

  • Checking on the quality of hot mix on the bitumen content.

  • Checking on the old asphaltic surface and deciding whether it should be milled or not and whether the granular base and the subgrade should be treated.

  • Supervising the laying of a surface layer of 5 to 8 cm of hot mix asphalt.

  • Checking on compaction and thickness by taking off cores and carrying out lab tests.

  • Quantity surveying and payment certification to Contractors.
