The Ministry of Public Works and Transport owns and manages the Lebanese road network including road lighting equipment. Maintenance of road lighting is complicated due to the large variety of luminaire models and equipment used.
A country-wide survey was carried out to identify the models used (around 21 models). Agents and manufacturers were contacted and catalogues of spare parts for each type were collected. Major municipal and public works departments in the U.S.A. were contacted to find out about the best methods and strategies of repair and maintenance outsourcing to independent contractors.
Standard specifications and typical tender documents were prepared to allow the MPWT to outsource road lighting maintenance as needed.
